By Associated Press | October 8, 2007

An eight-year-old boy who was hit by a car Friday evening while crossing a Manhattan street has died.

Police say a car rammed into Prince Harris near West 17th Street and Ninth Avenue. The P.S. 138 third-grader had been in critical condition but died early Saturday morning. The victim's father says his son and his two siblings were on their way to a park when he darted into the street in the Chelsea neighborhood.

Investigators say the 44-year-old driver waited for police to arrive. No charges have been filed.
