Elderly Woman Killed In Brooklyn Hit and Run

By CHRISTOPHER FAHERTY, Special to the Sun | April 4, 2007

An elderly woman was killed in a hit and run late Monday night as she was walking home from a Passover Seder in Brooklyn, police officials said.

The victim, Reyzya Burman, 73, and her husband, Michael Burman, were both hit by a gold Buick sedan at about 10:30 p.m. after getting dropped off by their daughter near their home in the Boro Park section of Brooklyn.

After the couple was struck on 9th Avenue, the driver of the sedan fled the scene, police said.

Mr. Burman was rushed to Maimonides Hospital where he remained yesterday in critical condition, police said.

Police scoured the area near the incident yesterday, searching for the suspect.

In an attempt to capture the suspect, neighbors posted flyers up around the neighborhood describing details of the hit and run.

"They were such a good couple. They were always together," a neighbor of the Burmans's for the past ten years, Nancy Cortez, said. "It's unbelievable how you can lose your life in an instant."
