Ex-Teamster Official Faces Prison, Fine

A former senior officer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters faces a $5,000 fine and six months in jail after prosecutors say he violated an 18-year-old deal resolving a federal racketeering probe of the teamsters.

William Hogan Jr. was permanently barred from the Teamsters Union in 2002 for conspiring with a non-union employer to enter into what prosecutors have called a substandard contract. Despite the lifetime ban, prosecutors say Mr. Hogan had more than 150 contacts with the union until 2005.

The 1989 settlement Mr. Hogan is charged with violating was aimed at eliminating corruption in the union. The terms prohibit members from "knowingly" affiliating with people caught breaking the terms of the deal. In addition to Mr. Hogan, some 300 people have been banned from the union.
