Firefighters Union Will Not Join Federal Suit
The firefighters union will not be allowed to join the city as a defendant in a federal case that alleges the department's hiring practices were racially biased. While The Uniformed Firefighters Association will not be a defendent, the Vulcan Society, representing black firefighters, was granted the right to join the Department of Justice as a plaintiff. The suit alleges that the department's examination process had a disparate impact on minority applicants.
