Q: Did you come to New York City to visit "The Gates"?
A: No, we came to New York to visit, and our visit coincided with "The Gates" - and I think it is delightful.
What do you think of them?
Frankly, it sounded like it was going to be something silly and perhaps ugly. But I find it very interesting. And it has made everyone like going out to look at it, so the park is full of people enjoying themselves, taking pictures, and having fun. I think it has stimulated a lot of people to come to the park, like us.
Did you know of the artist beforehand?
I know he wrapped he wrapped a big cloth around an island near Miami and he did something in California.
What did you think of those projects?
They seemed like oddball things. I mean the one in Miami, you need a boat to see it. This is at least in a public place that is accessible and it seems to have inspired the people to come see it.
Do you think it was worth $21 million?
If they can finance it, that is their business, I guess.
Do you think they should stay up longer than 16 days?
Sixteen days is probably enough, but then I don't know. It depends on the reception that the people give it. I see today, which is just an ordinary day, the park is full of people looking at it and enjoying it. It is a shame that it will go down.
