Harvard Launches Plan To Draft Green Treaty

By Special to the Sun | July 6, 2007

Harvard University yesterday launched a two-year, $750,000 project to develop a successor to the Kyoto Protocol, the global climate treaty that expires in 2012 and was never ratified by America.

The initiative, funded by the New York-based Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, will draw upon a wide range of experts with the aim of developing a "scientifically sound, economically rational, and politically pragmatic" plan.

Though the project's leaders say they will not participate in any lobbying efforts, they intend to seek meetings with presidential campaigns, national governments, and international organizations to brief them on the proposal.
