More than 1,000 homeless veterans in New York City are set to receive permanent housing through a $9.4 million program that will be administered by the New York City Housing Authority and the Department of Homeless Services.
Secretary James Peake of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Deputy Secretary Roy Bernardi of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday that New York's money is part of $75 million being set aside to provide permanent housing for an estimated 10,000 homeless veterans across the country. The program will give local public housing agencies rental assistance vouchers and link public housing agencies with medical centers for veterans in an effort to help eligible veterans receive services and assistance.
