How NYU Welcomes Its Freshman Class

By ANNIE KARNI | August 27, 2007

Highlights of New York University's "Welcome Week" activities for incoming freshman:

• 60/40: Being Male at NYU: The ratio of women to men on campus is 60% to 40%. How does that affect you? What's it like to be part of the male minority?

• Big Kids in the Big City: Recapture your childhood and learn about all of the great places in NYC to be a kid again, from toy stores to ice cream, candy shops, and more.

• Finding an Apartment in New York: It's never too early!

• Facebook & MySpace: Navigating virtual communities at NYU. What are the risks of spilling your guts online?

• Facebook in the Flesh: Meeting new people face to face can be intimidating. The workshop focuses on building social networks in person.

• Guess the Straight Person: Audience members guess which panelists identify themselves as straight after posing questions to queer and straight students.

• Coney Island Beach Party: Come to Coney Island before it's torn down. Labor Day weekend beach party.

• Hot Dog! A hot dog tour of the Village, with hot dog highlights of the neighborhood.

• Frosh Fifteen: How to get proactive about keeping off the "freshman fifteen."

• Greek Life, the Sweet Life: A walking tour of Magnolia Bakery with NYU fraternities and sororities.

• New Students Take Over New York: Times Square scavenger hunt.
