Landlord May Seek To Evict Midtown Eatery
A landlord could seek to evict the Mars 2112 restaurant in Times Square for violating its lease, court papers filed Friday show. The restaurant's lawyer, Scott Mollen, suspects the landlord, Paramount Group, might be dissatisfied with some of the restaurant's clientele. He added that the complaints are baseless.
He said their dissatisfaction could be connected with agreements between the landlord and the restaurant not to allow parties hosted by a rap and hip-hop radio station. Over the past several years, nearby violence and shootings have been connected with patrons at the club.
A spokeswoman for the Paramount Group, Kathleen McMorrow, said the company had "exercised its right as a landlord," but she declined to say why the 32,000-square-foot restaurant was violating its lease.
A Manhattan Supreme Court justice yesterday temporarily blocked Paramount from terminating the restaurant's lease.
