Majority of New Yorkers Welcome Papal Visit

An overwhelming majority of New Yorkers welcome the Pope's visit to the city, a Quinnipiac University poll finds.

The survey found that 70% of city voters think Pope Benedict XVI's visit will be good for the city.

A third of the voters want to attend the pope's mass at Yankee Stadium. Most Catholic voters said the pope was doing a good job, but 40% of all voters were undecided.

The director of the Quinnipiac Polling Institute, Maurice Carroll, said Pope Benedict XVI's approval is "just okay" because New Yorkers don't know him as well as his predecessor Pope John Paul. II.
