Man Claiming To Be U.N. Official Arraigned On Fraud Charges

A man accused of defrauding three Queens immigrants by claiming to be a U.N. official with connections to the Queens district attorney's office has been arrested and arraigned on fraud charges, the Queens district attorney said yesterday.

The man, Pedro Guzman, 48, is accused of stealing more than $30,000 from immigrants seeking legal help, prosecutors said.

In one instance, Mr. Guzman allegedly told a woman that he could get her son out of jail using his connections with the district attorney. Mr. Guzman also allegedly told a businessman seeking a liquor license he could help because he was a federal agent, and told a third victim he could help her mother get a green card because he worked for the American immigration and customs agency.

Mr. Guzman faces charges of grand larceny and fraud. His lawyer, Pamela Jordan, did not return a call requesting comment.
