Man Wielding Shovel Attacks Family at Grave
A family visiting the grave of a relative in a Queens cemetery was attacked and robbed yesterday, police officials said.
Police said the suspect, a 30-year-old white man, approached the victims, a 38-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery and hit the male with a shovel. He took their money, and then fled the scene westbound. He ran across the Van Wyck Expressway and climbed a fence, jumping into a lake on the other side.
Police said members of the NYPD aviation unit spotted the suspect hiding among some weeds in the lake, and he was arrested. The male victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The suspect was treated at Booth Memorial Hospital. Police said charges against the suspect are pending.
