MTA Machinery Outages To Be Posted Online

By Staff Reporter of the Sun | August 1, 2007

Chronic outages on the subway system's 159 elevators and 169 escalators are to be posted online by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority starting today, allowing straphangers to plan ahead for encounters with broken machinery. The elevator and escalator page on the MTA's Web site, www.mta.info, will be updated three times a day, the agency announced yesterday. The MTA is also planning to offer real time updates via email on elevator and escalator status at specific subway stations.
