New York Lawmakers Call for Diabetes Funds

By Special to the Sun | July 26, 2007

Three New York lawmakers are asking for $120 million in federal funding to support diabetes research and prevention.

Senator Clinton and Reps. Vito Fossella and Eliot Engel said the funding would create a division within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that would monitor diabetes cases, conduct research, and help states create prevention programs.

The announcement follows a city report that estimated diabetes costs New Yorkers about $6.5 billion a year.
