Officer Shoots Man Suspected of Carrying Grenade

By Staff Reporter of the Sun | November 21, 2007

A law enforcement agent yesterday shot a man in the Bronx who was suspected of carrying a hand grenade in his car, officials said.

The shooting took place after the agent, who was a member of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, pulled the suspect over in the South Bronx because a sting operation had found he may have been carrying the grenade, officials said.

After getting pulled over, the suspect sped off, dragging the agent behind the vehicle, officials said. The agent let off one shot, critically injuring the suspect, police sources said.

The agent was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and treated for bumps and bruises, officials said.
