A senior city official yesterday called on the state to provide more funds for the redevelopment of Governors Island.
At a public meeting, the city's deputy mayor for planning and economic development, Daniel Doctoroff, asked the state match the city's commitment of about $37 million to the project infrastructure for the year.
The city and the state are trying to renew the 72-acre island with a mix of parkland, retail, and commercial space. Since the project began in 2003, the governments have evenly shared the costs.
In the preliminary budget for the coming fiscal year, the city pledged about $17 million more than the state for infrastructure improvements. A spokesman for the state's Empire State Development Corporation said that its commitment for the year is finalized.
