One in Four City Men Binge Drank in 2005

One in four men in New York City reported binge drinking in 2005, according to a report released yesterday by the city's department of health.
Overall, 14% of New Yorkers — or about 900,000 adults — reported binge drinking, defined as having five or more drinks in one sitting. Among more than 1,400 alcohol-related deaths in 2005, two out of three deaths were men, the report said.
The city's binge drinking rates were lower than the national average, with 23% of New York City men reporting binge drinking compared with 31% nationally.
