'Pan's Labyrinth' Producer Accused of Nanny Abuse

By Staff Reporter of the Sun | February 1, 2008

The producer of the Oscar-winning Spanish film "Pan's Labyrinth" has been accused of abusing her nanny in a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court yesterday.

Frida Torresblanco allegedly underpaid the nanny, Angelica Hernandez, and also physically abused her after the nanny attended a Domestic Workers United meeting to learn about labor rights, the complaint said.

Ms. Torresblanco's husband, Marc Weiss, is also named in the complaint. The lawsuit also accuses the couple of racial discrimination, alleging that two white European nannies employed during the same period as Ms. Hernandez, who is Hispanic, were not subjected to the same treatment.

Ms. Torresblanco and Mr. Weiss, who lived in TriBeCa at the time of the alleged abuse, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
