Park Slope Charter School Gets Green Light

After being declined on their first attempt, a Park Slope charter school slated to open in the fall of 2009 is now receiving a go-ahead from the State University of New York, the school's leaders said yesterday.
Charter schools are public schools that are run privately rather than by the district, in exchange for tougher standards of creation and remaining chartered.
The Park Slope school would be a middle school, and it would serve such neighborhoods as Park Slope, Gowanus, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Windsor Terrace, Cobble Hill, and parts of downtown Brooklyn, school leaders said.
