Police Officers Involved In Corruption Case

By Staff Reporter of the Sun | December 20, 2007

Police are investigating a corruption case in Brooklyn after a police officer was caught on tape describing how he tampered with drug evidence, police officials said.

Detective Sean Johnstone was caught on a recorded conversation, which he mistakenly recorded himself, telling an unnamed officer that he and another police officer, Julio Alvarez, had underreported the amount of drugs they confiscated during a drug bust, police said. Both police officers were arraigned yesterday in criminal court in Brooklyn on false document and official misconduct charges. Internal affairs investigators for the police are investigating if any of the drugs actually went missing, police officials said.
