Police Seek Fake Bomb Bank Robbers

By Special to the Sun | April 5, 2007

A series of bank robberies in Brooklyn and Queens have police and FBI searching for two suspects who use fake explosives to intimidate tellers into handing over cash.

One of the suspects robbed a Commerce Bank on Monday in the Woodside section of Queens by passing the teller a note that demanded money, along with a hoax explosive device, police officials said.

The other suspect is wanted for at least four robberies that were committed in Brooklyn Heights in March, police said. In three of the cases, the suspect briefly spoke with the teller then displayed a cardboard box, claiming it was an explosive device, police said.
