Poll: Obama Leading McCain in New York

By Staff Reporter of the Sun | June 12, 2008

If the presidential election were held today, Senator Obama would beat Senator McCain in New York State, with Mr. Obama capturing 50% of the vote to Mr. McCain's 36%, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

The poll also found that 48% of New York State voters think Mr. Obama should not pick Senator Clinton as his running mate, while 42% think he should. Fifty-three percent of Democratic state voters, however, support the idea of an Obama-Clinton ticket. Forty-six percent of voters said they thought having Mrs. Clinton on the Democratic ticket would help Mr. Obama win the election, while 27% said they thought it would hurt, and 21% said it wouldn't make a difference.

President Bush's approval rating among New York State voters dropped to 20% from 22% in April, according to the poll.
