Racing Association To Hire Firm That Cleared It

ALBANY — The New York Racing Association is trying to hire the independent monitor that helped it avoid a federal indictment in 2005 despite opposition from the racing group's creditors, who call it an unnecessary $125,000-amonth commitment. NYRA wants to hire the law firm Getnick & Getnick of Manhattan without seeking competitive bids.
