Representatives Call For 9/11 Deaths Panel
In response to controversy over the death of Detective James Zadroga, Congressional Representatives Carolyn Maloney, Jerrold Nadler, and Vito Fossella are calling for an independent panel to determine whether deaths related to 9/11 qualify as victims of the attack, setting up a clash with Mayor Bloomberg.
"The Zadroga case and others like it underscore the need for a fully transparent procedure to evaluate whether deaths can be linked to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001," the representatives said in a letter yesterday.
The mayor told reporters he did not support their plan "because we're not going to make this a political thing. This is science."
