Schumer Says Mayor Is No Match for Clinton

By Associated Press | May 11, 2007

WASHINGTON — Senator Schumer said yesterday that Mayor Bloomberg cannot win the White House if Senator Clinton is the Democratic nominee.

Mr. Bloomberg has repeatedly insisted he is not running for president in 2008, but he raised eyebrows Wednesday when he relaunched his old campaign Web site touting his positions on a broad range of national issues.

Asked yesterday about Mr. Bloomberg 's prospects as an third-party candidate, Mr. Schumer said the mayor's chances really depended on the Democrats and the Republicans.

"There's only room for a third-party candidate if both parties screw up and nominate people who the public doesn't like," Mr. Schumer said.
