Teenager Dies in Brooklyn Shooting

By Associated Press | October 12, 2007

Police say a 16-year-old Brooklyn boy has died of injuries he suffered when he poked his head out of his apartment window and was shot in the face.

The NYPD said today that the victim, Tavin Alves, was taken off life support earlier this week.

They said it's likely the teenager leaned out of the window after hearing gunshots and was hit by a stray bullet. His 5-year-old brother found him on the floor of their home in Bushwick.

Friends and relatives said Alvez was a volunteer lifeguard who went to Franklin K. Lane High School.
