Two Airport Employees Accused of Stealing $250,000 in Jewelry

By Associated Press | January 15, 2008

Two New York men are facing charges that they stole $250,000 worth of diamond jewelry from the cargo area at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where they worked.

Prosecutors say the men, 51-year-old Richard Lombardo and his supervisor, 39-year-old Steve Tsihlas, have been arrested on charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. The Queens district attorney's spokesman, Kevin Ryan, says the men were working together on January 9 at the airport when they found a container marked "high value," with the jewelry inside.

Mr. Lombardo's court-appointed attorney says his client has a good record and more than 19 years on the job. Mr. Tsihlas could not be immediately reached for comment.
