By HOPE HODGE, Special to the Sun | July 16, 2008

A construction worker died from injuries after falling off a construction crane yesterday, after a dump truck collided with the crane, officials said. The collision, police said, happened at the intersection of Steinway Street and Broadway in the Astoria section of Queens around 5 p.m. The worker, a man in his 40s, fell from the crane when the truck, heading south on Steinway Street, slammed into the hydraulics of the crane.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in Queens, where he died a few hours later. Police did not immediately release the worker's name.

Officials said they did not suspect criminal activity, but were investigating the incident.
