Retired Army Sergeant Seeks Run for Congress

David Bellavia, a retired army staff sergeant who is the author of "House to House: An Epic Memoir of War," which describes his experience fighting in Iraq, is filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to form a campaign committee to run for Congress.

Mr. Bellavia, a Republican, lives in western New York with his wife and two sons and is running to represent New York's 26th congressional district. He chose to file the paperwork yesterday to highlight the need for tax reforms that let workers keep more of their pay, according to a news release. "During this time of challenge for the U.S. economy, Western New Yorkers need someone who will go to Washington to fight for their job and their families," Mr. Bellavia said in a news release. "The last thing voters want is a tax-and-spend liberal who will further burden their wallets with the threat of more taxation."

He has been honored with the state's Conspicuous Service Cross for combat valor, and has been nominated for the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross.
