November 1, 2007

Metal Shutter Houses

Metal Shutter Houses is the first new construction of residential condominiums from Japanese design guru Shigeru Ban. The architect, who is best know for his use of paper in constructing homes, has designed an 11-story building on West 19th Street, between Tenth and Eleventh avenues. The building houses nine four-bedroom apartments, all of which are floor-through duplexes. The apartments range in size from 1,949 square feet, for approximately $3.5 million, to 3,319 square feet, for roughly $10.5 million. All units have outdoor space, as well as perforated metal shutters that enclose loggia, allowing for adjustable light control and privacy. Other features include radiant floor heating in the double height living rooms, video intercom systems and a security-monitoring system. The sales office opened its doors last week and the prices have yet to be finalized. Occupancy is expected in winter 2008.

Sevenberry

Sevenberry is a new residential condominium designed by Karl Fisher Architect along the Brooklyn waterfront in Williamsburg. The four-story building, which will house 27 apartments, is located at 120 N. 7th St. Apartments will range from a 694-square-foot one-bedroom, starting at $575,000, to a 2,215-square-foot three-bedroom duplex for $999,000. The penthouses include a three-bedroom that is 1,516 square feet with 1,075 square feet of outdoor space and is on the market for $1.35 million. All the homes feature hardwood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. The building also includes a fitness center and a lounge for residents. Private garage spaces and storage units are also for sale. Occupancy is expected in spring 2008. The development went on the market on October 14th, and is approximately 40% sold.
