A North Carolina biologist who discovered a new species of spider has named the eight-legged creature after his favorite musician, Neil Young.
An associate professor at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., Jason Bond, is calling the spider Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi. The 62-year-old singer-songwriter isn’t the first musician to have a species named in his honor; the whirligig beetle was named for the late musician Roy Orbison.
