FREAKONOMICS New paintings by Franklin Evans are on display in the new show “Freakout,” his first solo exhibit in New York. The colorful, kaleidescopic works include rainbows, birds, and mysterious dark spaces. GALLERY HOPPING The ninth annual d.u.m.b.o. art under the bridge festival spans 30 blocks in the Brooklyn neighborhood, and includes 1,500 artists. The installations include a spiraling light sculpture by Carol Salmonson and performance artist Aimee Burg escaping from a transparent box. NEW YORK STREETS Landscape paintings by Frederick Brosen are on display in “Still New York.” Mr. Brosen captures the city at dawn, beginning by sketching a scene, then photographing it, sketching it again, and finally painting it. Paintings on view include scenes in Central Park and SoHo. Through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Forum Gallery, 745 Fifth Ave. at 57th Street, 212-355-4545, free.
LOOK UP “Paint the City” is an outdoor exhibit featuring three large paintings on billboards in SoHo. Alex Katz’s “Give Me Tomorrow” is at 40 E. 4th St. and Bowery, above the B Bar; Gary Hume’s “Cheerleader” is at 55 Houston St. at Wooster Street, and Lisa Sanditz’s “Tie-Dye in the Wilderness” is at 343 Canal St. at Greene Street. The project is sponsored by CreativeTime and United Technologies Corporation. Through Tuesday, November 1, free.
