CRIME SCENES British photographer Tom Hunter stages and photographs elaborate tableaux based on crime reports from his local newspaper, the Hackney Gazette.The works on view in the exhibit “Living in Hell and Other Stories,” which opened Thursday, recall the paintings of Gauguin, Le Nain Brothers, and other artists. Mr. Hunter discusses his work at the gallery this weekend (Friday, 6:30 p.m.). BOTANICAL BEAUTY Garden photographs by Herbert Hoover are on display at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Mr. Hoover, who is based in New York, creates images of classical botanical subjects by using historical alternative photographic processes. His pictures are shot with macro-lensed cameras and lensless pinhole cameras, then printed using a variety of historical processes.
