GRAIN OF SALT Pediatrician Lillian Beard discusses and signs her book “Salt in Your Sock: And Other Tried-and-True Home Remedies” (Three Rivers Press), a collection of do-it-yourself fixes for minor ailments. The title comes from a recipe for soothing an earache, where salt is warmed in a pan, placed in a sock, and put against the ear.
