HE’S NO. 1 Alexander McCall Smith, the author of the popular “Number One Ladies’ Detective Agency” series, reads from the latest installment, “Blue Shoes and Happiness” (Pantheon). In this adventure, the series’ heroine, a Botswana detective, deals with a village under the influence of witchcraft, a cook suspected of stealing food, a troublesome newspaper advice columnist, and her own weight loss.
