WRITERS WITHOUT READERS? The editor of “Bookmark Now” (Basic Books), Kevin Smokler, is host of an evening of readings from the new anthology of essays by young writers on the state of the profession in these “unreaderly times.” Contributors Stephanie Elizondo Griest, Robert Lanham , Benjamin Nugent , and Elizabeth Spiers are among the readers. TALK DIRTY Ars Nova presents a staged reading of Elizabeth Meriwether ‘s “The Mistakes Madeline Made.” The play follows three personal assistants, living in close quarters, who are afflicted with ablutophobia – the fear of bathing. Evan Cabnet directs the reading, with a cast that includes Austin Lysy, Colleen Werthmann, and Michael Chernus.The event is an installment of “The Next Step,” a workshop that provides playwrights with the chance to develop and rewrite their work.
