OIL SUPPLY


A former engineer for Shell Oil, Kenneth Deffeyes, gives a lecture in which he posits that world oil production could peak as soon as this Thanksgiving. He’ll discuss that possibility, as well as its consequences, in the talk, which is based on his book “Beyond Oil: The View From Hubbert’s Peak” (Hill and Wang).

BOOKS ONLINE


The New York Public Library and Wired Magazine present a discussion about the competing interests and issues raised by the Google Print Library Project, and whether a universal digital repository of collective knowledge is possible. Panelists at “The Battle Over Books” include Allan Adler of the Association of American Publishers, Chris Anderson of Wired Magazine, Google’s David Drummond, Paul LeClerc and David Ferriero of the New York Public Library, Lawrence Lessig of Stanford Law School, and Nick Taylor of the Authors Guild.

ON TRIAL


A professor of modern Jewish thought and Holocaust studies at Emory University, Deborah Lipstadt, discusses her book “History on Trial: My Day in Court With David Irving” (HarperCollins). It chronicles her six-year legal battle with Mr. Irving, who sued her in England for calling him a Holocaust denier.
