WOMEN’S HEALTH The Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York presents a symposium on “Breast Cancer and Genetics,” featuring the chief of the Clinical Genetics Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Kenneth Offit, and the project coordinator of the Link Program Sharsheret, Shera Dubitsky. AGAINST CRITICISM The Museum of Modern Art presents “Experimental Magazines and the International Avant-Gardes, 1945-1975,” a panel that considers how innovations in magazine-making, such as artist-run journals, has been employed in the dissemination of artistic and intellectual ideas. A writer and filmmaker, Liza Bear, and a founder of the short-lived art magazine Avalanche, Willoughby Sharp, are featured guests. A director of adult and academic programs at the museum, David Little, is moderator of the event. FOAM AND MORE The Artists-on-Artists lecture series features Christopher Williams in a talk about the foam sculptures of John Chamberlain, which are currently on view upstate at the Dia Art Foundation’s location in Beacon. RIDING THE WAVE “Governing Change: Policy, Politics, and the Spitzer Administration” is a daylong symposium designed for political insiders to discuss the current state of affordable housing, healthcare, public education, and government reform, all political venues that Governor-elect Spitzer plans to address in the beginning of his administration. Featured speakers include Mr. Spitzer’s new budget director, Paul Francis, and two former governors, Bill Weld of Massachusetts and Jim Florio of New Jersey. LANDSCAPE CENTRAL In conjunction with an exhibit of works by James Suydam, the National Academy Museum presents a lecture by the curator of Harvard University’s Fogg Art Museum, Theodore Stebbins.
