GREEK GRIEF


A benefit performance of Mark Schultz’s new play “Everything Will Be Different” is followed by a party. The play is about a grieving teenage girl who identifies with Helen of Troy. The SoHo Rep production is directed by the developmental company’s artistic director, Daniel Aukin. Benefit: Tonight, 7:30 p.m., $50 and $100. Runs: Through Saturday, April 30, Wednesday-Saturday, 7:30 p.m., SoHo Rep, 46 Walker St., between Broadway and Church Street, 212-868-4444, $15. Note: The play is for mature audiences.


PITY PARTY


In the new dark comedy “Death Party,” a 25-year-old man spends the day of his father’s funeral chugging beers, street-boxing with his straitlaced brother, and finally attending the funeral in dressed as a clown and wielding a loaded handgun. Marc Eardley directs the play, which was written by John Pastore. Through Sunday, Thursday-Sunday, 8 p.m.,Vital Theatre Space, 432 W. 42nd St., between Ninth and Tenth avenues, 212-868-4444, $15.


AMERICAN STORY


“Robeson” tells the story of actor Paul Robeson’s later years, after he returned to America to work on a film version of “Showboat.” When he speaks publicly about what he views as the Soviet Union’s better treatment of blacks, public sentiment turns against him and he is called to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee. Keith Oncale directs Miriam Jensen Hendrix’s play. Ezra Knight stars as Robeson in the Actors Stock Company NYC production. Through Sunday, May 1, Thursday and Friday, 8 p.m., Saturday, 3 and 8 p.m., Sunday, 3 p.m., Blue Heron Arts Center, 123 E. 24th St., between Lexington and Park avenues, 212-352-3101, $15.
