LEWINSKY LAUGHS “Monica! The Musical” harks back to the Clinton era, asking, “Exactly how did something this ridiculous happen? And why did we care so much?” The answers take the form of satiric songs mixing the worst of Washington past and present. Casey Hushion directs for Page 73 Productions. WORLD TRAVELS A new production of David Lindsay-Abaire’s comedy “Wonder of the World” marks the Phoenix Players’ 20th anniversary in Queens. The protagonist is a woman on the run who meets a series of oddball characters during a journey to Niagara Falls. The company’s artistic director, Robert Combe, shares directorial duties with Ben Fabrizi. GRIM GRINDSTONE Charlotte Meehan’s “Work” paints a dispiriting portrait of life as a cubicle-bound employee of a major corporation.The artistic director of the Flea Theater, Jim Simpson, directs the New York premiere production. MURDER MUSICAL “Thrill Me” sets the story of the Leopold and Loeb murders to song. Stephen Dolginoff’s musical drama is set in 1924 Chicago, when two privileged childhood friends set out to commit the perfect crime. Believing that laws did not apply to those who approached Nietzsche’s “Superman,” they kidnapped and murdered a young boy walking home from school. Quickly apprehended, the pair were represented in court by Clarence Darrow and sentenced to life in prison. Matt Bauer and Doug Kreeger star in and Michael Rupert directs the York Theatre Company production. Opens: Thursday.
