NOVEL IDEA

Writers Laurie Stone, Ranbir Sidhu, and Grant Bailie will enter separate specially designed habitats this weekend to begin work on their new novels. They will eat dinner together every night and present weekly public readings of their works in progress. The public can also watch the writer at work during designated viewing hours during the duration of the project. On June 4, they will emerge having produced one novel each. So what is the goal of “Novel: A Living Installation”? According to organizers, it’s “to facilitate the production of quality fiction and explore the act of writing itself as a performance, installation, and kinetic, living sculpture.” Opening party: Saturday, 7-10 p.m. Closing party: Saturday, June 4, 7-10 p.m. Public readings: Saturdays, 8 p.m. Viewing hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 3-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, noon-4 p.m., Flux Factory, 3838 43rd St., between 37th and Northern avenues, Long Island City, Queens, 718-707-3362, free.
