Let It Snow

If a blizzard had to hit New York City this year, the fates could not have chosen a better day than yesterday. For those New Yorkers who had to trudge in to work the snow created a trying commute, though plenty of New Yorkers made their way in. But many were free on President’s Day to enjoy the brilliance of a cityscape buried by more than a foot and a half of flakes. And for those who found themselves on the island of Manhattan, the quiet and peace and the visual beauty of the streets was something to behold. In Brooklyn we spotted a fellow on a racing-bicycle making his way through foot deep powder and waving to all he passed. Another gent was pushing a pram with a toddler waving through a windshield. Kids were sledding down stoops. New York City may not be the hardest hit American city by winter, but we always get a kick out of the way the city takes to the snow. It’s just a wonderful thing to watch New Yorkers wake up to the joy of winter.
