Governor Spitzer re-nominated the state’s chief judge for another term yesterday.
The chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals, Judith Kaye, is expected to serve into next year, until she reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70.
Judge Kaye was a relatively little-known litigator until 1993 when Governor Mario Cuomo elevated her to the Court of Appeals. Last year she authored the dissent to the court’s decision that the state Constitution does not guarantee the right of same sex couples to marry.
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo called Chief Judge Kaye “one of the mot outstanding state court jurists in American legal history.”
