‘Preschool Director Accused Of Mistreating Student’
Your choice of headline for the “Preschool Director Accused Of Mistreating Student” story on the top of page 4 in the weekend edition of The New York Sun, is greatly misleading [New York, “Preschool Director Accused Of Mistreating Student,” March 30 – April 1, 2007].
The use of the word “mistreating” strongly suggests abuse or neglect of a child. In fact, the Weekday School placed its director, Linda Herman, on paid administrative leave in response to one family’s allegations that she divulged a child’s score on a kindergarten placement exam to another parent, and that she did not fully inform the child’s parent of all discussions she had about the child with the admissions director of an ongoing private school.
These allegations, even if proven true, hardly constitute mistreatment of a child.
