‘Britain’s Harry Fights the Taliban In Afghanistan’

I’d like to salute Prince Harry, who had served on the front lines of Afghanistan’s Helmond Province [Foreign, “Britain’s Harry Fights the Taliban in Afghanistan,” February 29, 2008].

Prince Harry could have lived a comfortable life in England, but like his mother, the late Princess Diana, he wanted to serve the greater good.

I therefore praise him for his bravery, courage, and tenacious spirit.

I believe greater is the man or woman who dares to risk his or her life for their country when common sense says otherwise.

As in the words of the song, “Impossible Dream,” “And to run where the brave dare not go and to right the unrightable wrong.”

Well, that I think is Prince Harry’s quest, and as an American, I salute a true hero.

‘Silver To Hold Hearing on Traffic Tax Revenues’

Why would any City Council member of Brooklyn vote for the Bloomberg tax on workers disguised as congestion pricing [New York, “Silver To Hold Hearing on Traffic Tax Revenues,” March 5, 2008]?

We already have such a plan. It now costs a Bay Ridge resident $9 to travel over two miles of water via the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to visit family and friends in Staten Island.

When the mayor adjusts that unfair tax, then the City Council can discuss the rest of the issue.

Furthermore, the mayor’s appointees on the MTA board voted to increase the express bus fare to $5.

When it was reduced to $3 a few years ago, ridership soared by more than 20% and people left their cars at home.

That is what is needed in this town, not another tax that will be wasted on single-source construction projects benefiting commuters from Long Island.
