One of the best nights of Harlem Week is the induction ceremony for the National Black Sports & Entertainment Hall of Fame. At the event last night at Aaron Davis Hall, on the campus of City College, about a thousand members of the Harlem community came to honor a diverse group of talented artists and athletes, among them photographer Gordon Parks; the founder of Dance Theater of Harlem, Arthur Mitchell; the R &B group Boyz II Men; track and field Olympic gold and silver medalist Diane Dixon; golfer Lee Elder; soccer player Pele, and tennis player Billie Jean King.

Those in attendance included actress Kerry Washington (“She Hate Me”); violinist Daniel Constant, who’ll be performing with his trio Sunday at a Republican National Convention party hosted by the Congress of Racial Equality; author and editor Lerone Bennett Jr., and the president of City College, Gregory Williams.

For those who missed the party, here are some other ways to celebrate Harlem Week: Tonight at the Harlem State Office Building, the winner of the Michelob Jazz Vocal Competition, Elizabeth Kontomanou, performs; and through Sunday, seven restaurants including Sylvia’s, Londel’s, and Amy Ruth’s, are offering lunch and dinner for just $19.74, in honor of the year Harlem Week started.

Producer/artist Pharrell Williams, praised by Vogue for his fashion savvy, last night unveiled a new apparel and footwear collection for Reebok that will be in stores this fall. The Billionaire Boys Club clothing line and the Ice Cream sneaker line is a joint effort between Mr. Williams and Japanese sensation Nigo Bapesta, a designer and musician who began his career as a drummer for the punk band Tokyo Sex Pistols. The men’s clothing collection consists of hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies. Featured on the sneakers are radios, dice, pagers, and money rolls – which any buyer will need plenty of, since these ice cream treats are priced at $200 and up. Skateboarder Terry Kennedy joined Messrs. Williams and Bapesta at the launch event.
