MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC HEAD TO STEP DOWN
Marta Casals Istomin, the president of Manhattan School of Music since July 1992, has announced plans to retire as the school’s president at the end of the current academic year (2004-05). She will remain at the school as a member of the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Istomin stated that this was an extremely difficult decision for her to make and that “life made the decision for me.”

The Hamptons International Film Festival has announced the 12th annual pres entation of film and filmmakers to take place in East Hampton from October 20th through the 24th, with additional venues in Sag Harbor, Southampton, and Montauk … Through November 22, catch “Tom Otterness on Broadway,” an exhibition of 25 sculptures by New York City sculptor Tom Otterness, stretching from Columbus Circle to Washington Heights along Broadway. It is presented by the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Broadway Mall Association, and Marlborough Gallery … Conductor Laura Jackson is the recipient of the 2004-05 Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship. Ms. Jackson, who was appointed the American Symphony Orchestra League (ASOL) Conducting Fellow for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra beginning this month, will work with the Taki Fellowship’s founder, Marin Alsop, in coaching sessions and rehearsals in Denver, Colorado in 2005. In addition, she will receive $1,000 and will conduct the opening work on a subscription concert series with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
