The cast for the production of “Hamlet” in the 2008 Shakespeare in the Park summer season will feature Michael Stuhlbarg as Hamlet, the Public Theater announced yesterday.

Sam Waterston, who played the title role in the last Shakespeare in the Park production of the play 33 years ago, will play Polonius. Lauren Ambrose, who was Juliet in last summer’s “Romeo and Juliet,” will take the role of Ophelia. Richard Easton, who was previously cast as Polonius, and Lily Rabe, who was previously cast as Ophelia, are no longer available due to scheduling conflicts, the Public said.

Directed by Oskar Eustis, “Hamlet” will begin previews on Tuesday, May 27, and run through Sunday, June 29, at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.
