Six local cultural organizations each received grants of $100,000 as part of a new program launched by the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, the bank announced yesterday. The organizations, located in each of the five boroughs, include the Bronx Museum, the Queens Museum of Art, Queens Theater in the Park, Harlem Stage, the Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn, and the Staten Island Museum.
The bank created the New Spaces grant program to respond to the needs of local arts organizations trying to undergo capital campaigns to improve or build facilities. “The six organizations selected to receive grants comprise a constellation of cultural innovation which we are proud to invest in,” the president of the Deutsche Bank Foundation, Gary Hattem, said yesterday
The Bronx Museum plans to complete the second phase of its current expansion. The Queens Museum of Art will update its famous “The Panorama of the City of New York” exhibit and launch a new donor program. Harlem Stage plans to launch two public initiatives to increase local artistic participation. The Staten Island Museum will open the Arts Conservation Center, which will help the museum preserve paintings from its own collection, and will educate the public on conservation and preservation. Finally, the Weeksville Heritage Center, the only African-American historical site in the Northeast on its original property, will use its New Spaces grant to complete planning and development of a cultural and educational center.
