Three American directors — Clint Eastwood, Steven Soderbergh, and Charlie Kaufman — will be among the 19 contenders for the main award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Mr. Eastwood will be in competition with “Changeling,” while Mr. Soderbergh will unveil the two-part, four-hour-long “Che,” about the Argentina-born revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Mr. Kaufman will present “Synecdoche, New York.” The festival is held between May 14 and May 25 at the French Riviera resort.

Last year, there were five American films in competition.
